PROFILE OF DAVID WONG

Rev. David Wong was Director of Training for Haggai Institute, Maui, since 1994. He served as an overseer, faculty member and mentor to hundreds of Christian leaders, from scores of nations, trained in Maui each year. On 1 January 2001, he became Vice President of International Training, overseeing the training program in both Maui and Singapore.

Born in Singapore, he studied in the nation's premier school, Raffles Institution, then earned two Master's degrees in Arts and Theology from the University of Manchester, England, and the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. He completed his doctoral studies at Fuller Theological Seminary in 2004 with a paper on leadership and learning paradigms. His favorite and most recent title is that of grandfather.

He pastored the Mount Carmel Bible-Presbyterian Church in Singapore for 17 years, during which it grew from a shopfront church of 120 to a mother church of 500 with four daughter churches, including one in India. He taught as guest lecturer in several theological schools, and served as Deputy Dean of the Biblical Graduate School of Theology until he left Singapore for a wider ministry in 1994.

Rev. Wong has written the lyrics to six musicals, including Barnabas: Son of Encouragement and Love Above All: The Story of Jim and Elizabeth Elliot (staged 2003 in Singapore), and authored a dozen books, the latest of which are Journeys Beyond the Comfort Zone, The Missing Chopstick and Make Them Laugh, Help Them Learn.

He is married to Jenny, a pre-school teacher, and they have two daughters and one grandson.
